    Relax has an old-school feeling, like a Blue Note album from the sixties. It's a straight-ahead sound, with Buck Hill's brawny, relaxed tenor saxophone in the embrace of a fine organ trio. I compare it to an "album" in part because there's a two-sided feeling to the eight songs.

A product of DC, Buck went to high school with many local favorites such as Leo Parker, George Botts, Charlie Rouse, Leo Williams and Jimmy Cobb to name a few. Relax is Bucks first organ based album and features Jon Ozment on organ, Paul Pieper on guitar, and Jerry Jones on drums/5(6).

    Indeed, the title track, "Relax," is precisely that, a textbook definition of loose, relaxed organ trio swing. The program divides itself more-or-less equally between some ingratiating Buck Hill originals and Miles Davis tunes -- with the exception of the old Charlie Parker vehicle, "Old Folks Brand: Severn.

    May 09,  · I picked up a couple of Buck Hill CD's called "Capital Hill" and "I'm Beginning To See The Light". I first heard this guy on a Shirley Horn CD. He was only on one track of that CD and he sounded great. When I saw these two CD's in Newbury Comics I snatched them up hoping they would be good. They turned out to be great straight ahead jazz. This guy had a big sound and his improv is very .
